OPPOSITION is mounting over plans to build a Tesco Express in Ambleside.
A petition has been started against the convenience store’s move into the town after it bought the space left by outdoor clothing retailer Gaynor Sports.
Around 40 residents attended last week’s Lakes Parish Council meeting to express their concerns.
Margaret Spence, of Granny Smiths greengrocers, said ‘feelings were running very high’.
Ambleside resident Graham Murray said traders and local people were worried about the size of the development, car parking and traffic issues it could cause.
“There’s no available parking and nowhere appropriate that I can see for delivery vans to move stock into the shop.”
A Tesco representative is expected to attend Wednesday’s Lakes Parish Council Plans meeting, at 7pm, at the Ambleside Parish Centre.
