As part of The Westmorland Gazette's Blitz Lakeland's Litter Campaign', I thought I would collect the litter on a one mile stretch of the Barbon to Dent road through Barbondale, resulting in a full bin liner, around seven kilograms in weight.
At Blind Beck Bridge there are still the remains of eight camp fires from last summer. Four hundred yards further on there is another camp fire containing many beer cans (still to be collected). All this alongside one of the most picturesque stretches of road in the area.
I have never heard of anyone being fined for dropping litter.
All strength to the Gazette in its campaign.
Robert H. Goad, Barbon
