A STRETCH of Furness shoreline is looking as good as new thanks to the hard work of 33 volunteers who took part in a beach clean last Friday.
Families from Barrow, Ulverston and Bardsea helped clear 132 kg of rubbish along the shore at Bardsea from the car park south to Sea Wood.
Twenty-three balloons, one car battery, a tyre, 16 fireworks and 14 drinks cans were found in the litter.
More than 2,000 volunteers have now taken part in beach cleans organised as part of the Morecambe Bay Partnership's BeachCare Project. On Friday the lucky 2,000th volunteer, David Jackson of Ulverston, received a jute bag and bottle of Fairtrade wine provided by Booths supermarket.
The event was sponsored by GlaxoSmithKline. Dr Carl Milner and Pat Ford of Glaxo visited the beach to present a £300 cheque to Helen Annan, the Morecambe Bay Partnership's BeachCare Officer.
