ONE of the region's most prolific artists features in a group show at Kendal's cultural quarter.

Tim Leeson teams up with well-known Kendalian freelance photographer Helen Isaac and Lancaster-based painter Tony Birchwood for the Scar exhibition, which is staged at Space2create within the excellent The Factory complex on Aynam Road.

Running until April 4, Tim says that it was Helen who suggested an exhibition on the theme of Scout Scar: "Helen lives and works in Kendal. She finds inspiration in her home town and she felt that the Scar was an ideal location for creating because of the abundance of subject matter."

Tim's paintings of Scout Scar are reflections of personal mood and he has used the Scar for artistic and recreational purposes many times while he's lived in Kendal: "I love the Scar and the divide between land and sky, the colour contrasts and how sometimes the conditions up there reflect my moods - good and not so good."

Tony Birchwood is a painter of international renown. He studied at art schools in Hull and in Eastbourne. He is a fellow of the Royal Society of Artists and his work reflects light conditions and how it affects the land. Tony found the Scar inspirational and felt the subject matter helped him to concentrate on his new body of work.

Space2create is a charity which helps people in recovery from long-term mental and physical problems. It runs regular workshops which help service users improve their mental and physical well being. It also has a designated gallery space which is used by service users and professional artists alike.

The next Open Studio event at The Factory takes place on the weekend of April 2/3 (11am-5pm), when resident artists and design-makers open up their creative spaces to the public. Additionally, there will be a showcase of The Factory's residents work at David Penn's Artspace 26A gallery running until April 10.
