ARTFEST North returns to Kendal this weekend and it looks set to be bigger and better than ever.

The town hall will be filled with paintings, sculptures, prints and other original works for sale, by more than 60 artists, this Saturday and Sunday, alongside a vintage-style tearoom.

"There’s no doubt the quality is even better than in 2013," says Rosie Wates, who organises the art fair with Tina Balmer.

"This is a unique opportunity. Where else can you see such a wide range of really top-class creative people, discuss their works with them, and buy at really affordable prices?"

Tina added: "I really like being in the town hall. It's such a beautiful building, it’s a pleasure to be able to exhibit in such a space."

Westmorland and Lonsdale MP Tim Farron will open the show, which is supported by well-known local artists, the Brewery Arts Centre, Lakeland Arts and South Lakeland District Council.

"There are some great art events in Cumbria," said Rosie. "But what makes ArtFest North special is the variety, and the quality of the work. We don’t just do paintings, we have ceramics, photographs and prints - a whole range of different art forms as well as an excellent mixture of familiar faces and artists who will be new to visitors."

Three leading figures in the South Lakes art scene - Trevor Avery, Helen Watson and Jamie Barnes - selected the exhibiting artists, many of whom have won national prizes. They include Catherine MacDiarmid, who recently won second prize at the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists, and fellow Kendalian Thuline de Cock.
