BARROW-BORN singer songwriter Maz O’Connor has joined forces with blistering live act Jamie Smith’s Mabon (JSM) for a double header tour.

Maz burst onto the folk scene after completing her English degree at Cambridge University and released her debut album ‘Upon a Stranger Shore’ in summer 2012.

Her set features a mixture of contemporary, traditional and original songs, accompanied by guitar, shruti box and piano, and all delivered with an honesty that is born of a love of folk song and a commitment to a good story.

In early 2013 Maz and the English Folk Dance and Song Society were awarded funding by the BBC Performing Arts Fund, and Maz spent the year working with EFDSS as a creative fellow.

She also joined the Royal Shakespeare Company as the singer for the production of ‘As You Like It’ with music written by Laura Marling.

One of the most exciting live acts on the scene, JSM’s music delves into every Celtic corner with high-energy jigs and reels jostling for space alongside Breton an dro, French mazurka and Galician muiñera in an exuberant, feelgood show.

The Maz and Mabon tour comes to Theatre by the Lake, Keswick on February 25.
