STORTH Village Hall goes Stateside this week as its transformed into the set for one of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s most famous musicals - Carousel.
Staged by Storth Entertainers until Saturday, May 10 (7.30pm), the musical has been revived all over the world on numerous occasions, with Nicholas Hytner’s 1992 National Theatre production setting the standard. The show was turned into an MGM film in 1956, which starred Gordon McRae and Shirley Jones.
One of the show’s most memorable tunes is the anthemic You’ll Never Walk Alone adopted by Liverpool Football Club as its official song.
The show begins in 1873 in a small seaside community in Maine. Throughout the prologue The Carousel Waltz, two mill workers, Julie Jordan and Carrie Pipperidge, visit the fair and catch the eye of Carousel barker Billy Bigelow.
The Storth cast includes Andrew Davies as Billy, Anna Graves takes the role of Julie and Katherine Waterhouse plays Carrie.
Digby Singleton is the conniving Jigger Craigin.
