AN OPEN-AIR art exhibition has brought a splash of colour to a construction site in Kendal.
Kendal Riverside Ltd, the partnership behind the £100 million redevelopment of K Village, has adorned the hoardings surrounding its site on Lound Road with 50 pieces of art by local students.
The ‘gallery’ was the brainchild of Barry Willis, a lecturer in art and design at Kendal College, who, approached the firm last September to sponsor the project.
And the finished project was unveiled by Mayor of Kendal Coun Clare Feeney-Johnson, pictured left with student Hayley Millard and her contribution to the display.
Coun Feeney-Johnson said: “I believe that the young people in our town are very creative and talented and one of my aspirations as Mayor is to give them a platform to celebrate their talent. The unique gallery is most welcome.”
The Kendal college students have based their art on the theme ‘I See Kendal’. The 50 images have been printed onto aluminium sheets mounted at intervals at either end of the hoardings. The work will be on public display until early 2010.
