A MUSIC-MAD teenager has been handed the chance to work with one of pop’s biggest producers after her uncle won an auction live on national radio.

Amanda’s uncle Andrew Tinkler, new co-owner of Eddie Stobart Ltd, splashed out £36,000 to win his niece a day recording with producer Pete Waterman, the man behind global stars like Kylie Minogue and Steps.

Amanda, 17, from Crosby Garrett, near Kirkby Stephen, cried tears of joy after her uncle told her the good news: “I’m really excited. All my mates have been ringing me up.

“My uncle has always really supported me with my singing and my music but this is something special”.

The auction took place live on Radio 2’s breakfast show and all the money will go to the BBC’s Children in Need appeal.

Amanda has already taken part in a junior Stars in their Eyes show for television and added this second chance might be just what she needed to break into the big time.

“I’ve always wanted to take up music professionally. This will hopefully give me a big boost”.

Amanda will record a CD and lay down cover versions of tracks selected by Mr Waterman, but unfortunately the music will not be for sale.
