TEACHERS in a South Lakeland school have been showing their pupils how it is done by picking up qualifications to give their careers a boost.

Three teachers at Kendal's Queen Katherine School have collected degrees and professional qualifications following years of hard work.

Jane Brierly, head of the geography department, has earned a professional qualification of Chartered Geographer recognising understanding teaching expertise and subject knowledge History teacher Christina Watson, who is also the acting head of the middle school, was awarded an MA in Education from the University of Cumbria after five years of part-time study.

Psychology teacher Kate Hampshire, who is head of year 7 and learning support at the school, picked up an MA in Psychological Research Methods from the Open University. She received the degree after completing a four-year part time course.

Steven Wilkinson, head teacher at QKS praised the teachers for wanting to further their careers by gaining extra qualifications.

He said: "It is great news that those three members of the school staff have had such success in their own professional development. We have a high quality teaching non-teaching force but I'm delighted that colleagues take their professional progress so seriously."
