Remembrance Sunday in Kendal
HUNDREDS of people climbed to the top of a Lakeland mountain for the annual Remembrance Day service today.
Around 500 walkers made their way nearly 3,000 feet to the summit of Great Gable to observe a two minutes' silence at 11am.
They gathered around a plaque which commemorates members of the Fell and Rock Climbing Club who died in the First World War.
The plaque was dedicated in 1924.
Elsewhere, remembrance parades and services were held in towns across South Cumbria, including Kendal, Windermere, Grange-over-Sands, Ulverston and Broughton-in-Furness.
And a roll of honour inscribed with the names of all Kendal soldiers who died in the first and second world wars was unveiled at Kendal Parish Church.
