A SOUTH Lakeland Samaritans volunteer is on a mission to sell 1,000 cakes to the hungry public in a fund-raising drive.

Annie Rawlinson, of Levens, who ran the weekend’s London Marathon in a bid to raise £5,000 for Lancaster and District branch of the emotional support charity.

Kendal College baked up the mass of sweet treats and Annie sold the £1 yummy creations across the area as part of ‘Operation Cupcake’ at the Watermill Inn, Ings, Burgundy's Wine Bar, Kendal, and Lakes Leisure.

“It costs £2.91 to answer each call,” said Annie. “We rely totally on donations from the public nut the number of calls is increasing.”

Sunday’s London Marathon was her 10th race as she looks to complete 12 in total.

So far, she has ticked off two 10k races, five half marathons, the Dubai marathon and a 14-mile race in Hong Kong.
