A POLICE investigation is underway following a failed attempt to steal whiskey from a lorry at a Truckstop on Mardale Road, Penrith.
Officers said the thieves targeted a curtain-sided truck, slashing their way into the trailer at about 2.40am yesterday.
Pallets stacked with whiskey were loaded onto another lorry trailer, which had also been stolen from another part of the country.
At least two crooks made off on foot - without the stolen whiskey and truck after witnesses disturbed them.
One was described as wearing a dark top and dark trousers.
A force spokesman said: "Officers are keen to speak with anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the area of the Truckstop immediately before the theft occurred or recalls seeing anyone in the area on foot afterwards."
