KENDAL Calling is well underway with thousands of revellers young and old soaking up the sunshine.

The festival officially opened for business at lunchtime and already the fields of Lowther Deer Park near Shap are vibrating with music.

Opening proceedings for the three-day spectacle on the main stage was Lancaster beatboxer Jack Bee who wowed the crowd with an impressive display which featured some nifty sampling.

Another highlight was the Riot Jazz Brass Band whose takes on Fleetwood Mac's Everywhere and Bon Jovi's Living On A Prayer went down a storm.

Over at the coolest coffee bar in the galaxy, Tim Peaks Diner, curated by Charlatans front man Tim Burgess, DJs and live artists are helping to create a chilled out vibe for those wanting to put their feet up and take a breather.

The incredible Public Enemy are set to play the main stage at 7.30pm, and will be followed by Basement Jaxx at 9pm, but before then New Zealand's finest Willy Moon will perform.

He chatted to The Gazette ahead of his appearance, and said: "It's a really beautiful site here - really impressive.

"I'm spending this summer playing festivals and this weekend we're playing Kendal Calling then heading to Kent and then Berlin, but before that I'll be watching Public Enemy tonight.

"They've been a big influence on my music and I've wanted to see them ever since I was a kid."
