TORY activists in South Lakeland have chosen an NHS doctor as their parliamentary candidate for Westmorland and Lonsdale.

Dr Ann Myatt will challenge Liberal Democrat MP Tim Farron for the seat at the General Election scheduled for 2015.

She was chosen at a packed constituency meeting in Kendal on Saturday.

After her selection, Dr Myatt said: "I love this area and its people; and I look forward to fighting for local people on the things that matter to them most."

Neil Salisbury, chairman of the Westmorland and Lonsdale Conservative Association said: "We've picked the right candidate for this fight. Ann has connections to the area and a deep understanding of what rural matters we are facing, especially when it comes to Westmorland General Hospital."

Dr Myatt has been a medical practitioner for over 30 years, enjoys walking and gardening and is a long serving member of both the Anglican Church and the National Trust.
