WOMEN from Kendal’s Knit Natter Stitch and Chatter group raised £642 for the Royal British Legion poppy appeal by knitting and crocheting poppies to sell in the town’s Rifleman’s Arms pub.
The idea came from group member Wendy Higson, who thought it maight raise £100 towards the huge nationwide appeal – but the small project grew into a mad rush to make as many poppies as possible before Remembrance Sunday.
Wendy said: “We were making them whenever and wherever we possibly could – with one member even making them in a Chinese takeaway one night while waiting for her tea. We are so pleased with the final total.”
