A DROP-in-in day is being held in Kendal on Saturday to wrap up a very successful six week campaign to find more adoptive families.

Cumbria County Council’s adoption team will be welcoming people to the town hall from 10am to 2pm to chat to visitors about whether adoption is for them.

The “Be our someone” campaign has been hugely successful with over four times the average hits on the website and the best month ever for telephone inquiries.

More than 40 per cent of this year’s inquiries have been since October 1 and the adoption team have already approved 25 applicants this year and are assessing a further 20 – a stark contrast to last year’s 21 approved applicants.

The campaign has featured TV and radio adverts, newspaper articles, adverts, and social media activity.

The recruitment drive is focused on raising awareness of the children waiting to be adopted. It also provides inspiration for people to come forward and consider adopting one of the 51 children in Cumbria waiting for adoptive families.

Coun Anne Burns, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, said: “This campaign has been a great success. It’s been about getting out there, spreading the message about adoption and giving people the confidence to find out more. Adoption is a big decision but people can be confident that we will be there for them throughout.”
