THE first defibrillator equipment to be bought for a local community through a fund set up by Cumbria County Council’s chairman has been fitted at a Furness pub.
Villagers in Bardsea worked together to raise £1,000 to buy the lifesaving equipment as part of Coun Alan Barry’s 2013-14 fundraising appeal. It will be officially unveiled at The Ship Inn, Main Street, next Wednesday afternoon.
It is now operational and ready to be used in the event of an emergency. “I am thrilled to see this lifesaving equipment installed in a community,” said Coun Barry. “It is reassuring to know that, should the worst happen, and someone from the community or a visitor has a cardiac arrest immediate help is at hand.
“I would like to congratulate the residents of Bardsea for their fundraising efforts and to thank them for taking part in the appeal.”
