RESIDENTS in Witherslack are being called on to help protect local red squirrels.
According to a spokesman for the Westmorland Red Squirrel Society, trees around the raised peat bog at Foulshaw are to be felled – meaning squirrels will be short of ‘safe places’ to live.
People are being urged to make any woods that border the mosses safe places for displaced red squirrels to move into.
