SOMETHING BRILLIANT by Mark Tuohy
ebook
MARK Tuohy’s moving novel about a teenager with cerebral palsy was finished thanks to support from New Writing Cumbria, which enabled him to access an Arts Council grant.
It tells how frustrated James struggles to make himself understood because of his condition, which he feels has led to him being treated ‘like an idiot’.
He withdraws into a world of his own but his life changes when he meets Sally and a friendship blossoms.
Although this is severely tested, it proves durable and ultimately cathartic after James is able to come to Sally’s aid when things go wrong for her.
This is Mr Tuohy’s second novel. He has also had several plays broadcast on Radio 4 and worked on a World Service ‘soap’.
