A COUPLE stranded on a fell by cattle and mud had to call out mountain rescuers last night.
The pair, visitors to the area, found themselves stuck on Hampsfell at Grange after their planned route became blocked, forcing them to retreat back towards the summit.
“They had intended a circular route but found their exit from the fell blocked by deep mud and cattle,” explained a spokesman for Kendal Mountain Rescue team, which attended.
“They decided to return to the summit and retrace their steps.
“Unfortunately, it went dark, they became disorientated and sensibly called for assistance.”
The team was called out at around 7.20pm.
Three team members who were close to the area located the couple, and their dog, and led them off the fell.
