A LAKE District hotel is reporting a growing trend in grooms taking charge of wedding planning.

The Daffodil Hotel & Spa by the Lake in Grasmere, says there has been a 'notable increase' in men getting more involved.

Traditionally a female only domain, it has led to some controlling brides being dubbed 'Bridezilla', or in this case 'Groomzilla'.

The hotel’s wedding planner, Ashleigh Ryan, says correspondence is increasing with husbands-to-be.

In fact, a competition to win a wedding at the venue has attracted as many as a third of entries from the male of the species.

Ms Ryan explained: “There was a time when I solely dealt with the bride-to-be and, in some cases, actually only met the groom for the first time on the wedding day.

"However, I am now seeing more grooms at showrounds so they are having a say in the choice of venue as well as receiving many more initial telephone and email enquiries from grooms.

“What I do find really interesting is the difference in priorities between men and women when it comes to planning their wedding.

"For men, its all about the practicalities whereas for women, its all about the detail.”

The grooms’ top priorities are said to be cost, what drinks are on offer, and wanting the venue to provide an overview of the whole day.

Whereas brides are seeking the more emotive and visual experience of location, decoration, and whether the venue can make a childhood dream come true.

The four-star hotel sits alongside the water in the charming village of Grasmere that inspired many of the Romantic poets like Wordsworth.
