MP Tim Farron formally marked the start of construction at McCarthy & Stone’s forthcoming development on Burneside Close, Kendal, by attending an official ceremony.

Mr Farron joined McCarthy & Stone’s regional land director, Christopher Watson, to commemorate the first steps in the construction of 60 independent retirement apartments, which have been designed specifically to help those aged over 70 'make the most of later life.'

Mr Farron said: “I’m delighted to be attending the ground-breaking of this purpose built housing development in Kendal. I’m sure it will have a positive impact on our town. I look forward to seeing the project grow in the weeks and months ahead.”

Facilities include a shared lounge, an on-site restaurant, guest suite, laundry room and two lifts.

There is also a security entrance system plus 24-hour emergency call points. All properties are low maintenance and energy efficient.
