TIM Farron MP put the boot into the problems facing young people by discussing their issues during a kickabout.

The South Lakes MP held youth surgeries in Hallgarth, Sandylands and Kirkbarrow to better understand what matters to teenagers in the area, and decided the football pitch was the ideal venue.

More than 20 children aged between eight and 16 arrived in Hallgarth to voice their concerns whilst keeping fit.

Christopher Savage, 16, of Newbiggin Road, said: “We want the pitch and goalposts fixed, they’re too old and small. I’m happy Tim came today, he’s the best politician in the area because he makes a contribution to everybody.”

Mr Farron said: “I think it’s very important to engage with young people in our area and the Easter break gives me the perfect chance to discuss the issues affecting them. It’s also great for me to get the occasional game of five-a-side in!

“Obviously the games areas are important to young people, as I’ve heard today, but I also enjoy hearing their concerns on crime and jobs. I try to act on their comments so they can see they really make a difference to their local area.”
