THE new chairman of Cumbria County Council’s local committee for South Lakeland is John McCreesh, the Liberal Democrat councillor for Kendal Strickland and Fell.

He replaces Coun Geoff Cook, who is now county council chairman.

Nick Cotton, Liberal Democrat member for Sedbergh and Kirkby Lonsdale, was elected the local committee’s vice-chairman.

Coun McCreesh said: “I’m honoured to be taking up this position and look forward to working with my fellow local committee members to shape the delivery of services for the benefit of the people of South Lakeland.

“As a local committee, we make decisions on a range of areas, from highways to youth grants and we’re committed to working with all our partners to improve the quality of life for South Lakeland residents.”
