FINDING something to wear for work on a warm, sunny or even muggy day can be a bit of a pain.

The difficulty for me is always trying to strike the right balance between being summery and being professional.

Day dresses are cool and comfortable but can be a tough one - although not impossible - and you can often end up looking too casual.

Similarly, accompanying sandals are the obvious choice but aren’t always the best option if you’re pounding the pavements ‘on the go’.

Keeping it simple I’ve realised is key.

The answer? A plain but pretty top.

It might seem boring at first, but worn with tapered trousers and pumps, you will soon be feeling cool and looking like a clean, sophisticated and savvy professional.

This week I have gone with two options from Dorothy Perkins, and the first is one that I already have in my wardrobe.

At just £18, their navy blue ‘flutter sleeve’ top is sleek and simple.

The crepe soft tee is light and airy and has a button back keyhole fastening.

An alternative is their white floral lace ‘shell’ top at £20, with a dainty detail that is perfect for summer but suitable for work.

Both these tops can be worn with almost any coloured trousers and flats, so they’re great for mixing and matching.

You could also add a big statement necklace to either to give it a personal twist.

Grab a cardigan or a blazer and you’re good to go!
