LIBRARIES in Cumbria have issued a call for young volunteers to help with this year’s Summer Reading Challenge.

Every year Cumbria County Council's libraries run this national scheme to encourage four to 12-year-olds to read during the summer holidays.

On joining the scheme children are provided with a pack to get them started and they collect stickers and incentives along the way.

On completing their six books they receive a medal, certificate and wrist band.

The Summer Reading Challenge starts in every library in Cumbria on July 12 and finishes on September 14.

The county's libraries need to recruit volunteers aged 14 to 24 across the county now to get them trained in time for the launch in July. For an application form visit
