MEMBERS of The Wainwright Society walked the 84 ridge walks described by Alfred Wainwright in Books 1 – 3 of the Pictorial Guides during the annual charity challenge, over three weeks in May, and raised £1,500 for the Brathay Exploration Group.

Honorary member Alan Hinkes, the mountaineer who was the first Briton to climb all the world’s 8,000m peaks, presented the cheque to Malcolm Tillyer, chairman of the BEG, based in Ambleside, at the top of Helm Crag overlooking Grasmere.
