CURATORS at Penrith and Eden Museum are appealing for First World War memorabilia to add to its own collection.
The musuem is displaying its own material over the coming months to mark the centenary of the conflict and is making a case and display space in the gallery available for donated or loaned items.
A spokesperson said: “While many local people may not have any articles or mementos, they may still have stories to recall, gathered over the years from parents or relatives and handed down from the generation whose lives were directly affected.”
The exhibition is part of the Penrith Remembers commemorations, involving churches, businesses and individuals.
The museum has also developed an education workshop for schools about the First World War. Workshops will to be run at the Museum and on an outreach basis in schools. The aims of these workshops are to shed valuable light on how the war impacted upon people in the Eden district.
The spokesperson added: “As well as collecting material for display and preservation the Curators are keen to acquire material which could be used for handling purposes in the educational workshops and for related purposes.”
The curators can give advice as to what will be suitable at the museum, and can be contacted by phone: 01768 865105 or email: museum@eden.gov.uk.
