THIS year’s Kendal College summer exhibition is another creative triumph for all involved.

Running at the Beezon Road campus until Friday, June 20, it showcases the work from extended diploma year two and the foundation art, design and photography students, with many of the students moving on to take up degree places at universities throughout the UK, particularly in London and Glasgow.

The works, as always, cover a wide and diverse range of ideas, styles and materials, from fashion and textiles, graphic design, 3D sculpture and interactive installations, to traditional photography, video and animation.

The exhibition is bursting with standout work such as Mr Right or Mr Right Now, a comic art type installation from talented photographer/artist Rebecca Deighton.

"The concept for the piece started when I looked into why people today are getting married and forming relationships,” explained Rebecca. “I wanted to explore the current culture or online dating within this and produce a piece of work that would prompt the viewer to question their own relationship habits. The work is of a comical nature and is intended to be the extremes of online dating.”

Another striking work is by gifted Burneside student Logan Roberts, Slow Decline of Ambition, a series of pieces showing how a 10-year-old boy’s career ambition moves from astronaut to office worker as he grows older, and his happiness turns to depression as his ambition fades.

Logan has had a successful exhibition winning the Kai and Sunny Illustration Award and runner-up in the Youdells Arts Shop Award.

Photography lecturer Dave Willis said the art and photography students were particularly proud of their achievements this year as the college had undergone a complete refurbishment and the summer exhibition was the first major event to be staged in the recently reopened Allen Building.
