28-year-old buzzard ringed in 1985 is the oldest recorded

The Westmorland Gazette: Buzzard Buzzard

A RECORD-breaking Eden buzzard has featured in the latest report from the British Trust for Ornithology (BTO).

Buzzard 'GK41814' was ringed as a nestling at Sunbiggin Tarn, Orton, in June 1985 and found dead nearby in July last year.

At 28 years and one month old, it broke the previous record for the oldest bird on record by nearly three years – and more than doubled the 12-year average lifespan of a buzzard in the wild.
