GRASMERE residents are being given chance to comment on plans for 23 new homes in the village.

They are being invited to find out more about Two Castles Housing Association’s proposals for affordable houses on two sites.

A consultation event will take place at the Tithe Barn on Wednesday (August 13), from 4pm until 7pm, when the community can drop-in and have their say on proposals to build the new homes at Smithy Bridge and on land off Pye Lane.

Two Castles says it want sto build ten two-bedroom and three-bedroom homes at the first site with a further 13 two-bedroom and three-bedroom homes, as well as two-bedroom bungalow, at the Pye Lane location..

Greg Denwood, regional property services manager at Two Castles, pointed out there were around 3,000 people currently looking for affordable homes to rent in South Lakeland.

“There is a real need for new affordable housing in Grasmere and its surrounding area. We are committed to building sustainable communities and as part of this particular scheme, new homes will incorporate local design features using materials in-keeping with the surrounding area.

“These new homes will also give local people, especially young families, the chance to continue living where they belong and we’d encourage all local residents in housing need to come along to the event to find out more about how they can register their interest in applying for a new home.”

Those who are not able to attend the community consultation event, but would still like to express views on the proposed schemes, can write to Greg Denwood at Two Castles Housing Association, 3 Castle Street, Carlisle, CA3 8SY.
