AN ARTIST keen to capture the seascape of Morecambe Bay has earmarked a former public toilet as his next studio.
James Youngson, who operates under the name Papion, plans to convert the disused promenade loos at Grange-over-Sands, saying they could be renovated as early as next spring.and has submitted a plan to South Lakeland District Council.
“My family and I are regular visitors to Grange and I am often inspired by the beauty and tranquillity of the area,” he said.
“It was on a recent visit that I noticed the property going up for auction and felt it would make a perfect studio to paint from at weekends, given the beautiful view and quiet location.
“The studio will be very sympathetically restored to keep in character with the local area.”
Kirkby Lonsdale contemporary art gallery The Loovre is also housed in a refurbished public loo, on the town’s Jingling Lane.
