A KENDAL man pushed his girlfriend to the floor and spat ‘in her direction’ after a day of drinking at Cartmel Races, South Lakeland magistrates heard.

Tarran Doak, 26, of Lound Road, admitted assaulting Jemma Sweeney after an argument between them.

In mitigation, Karen Templeton said Doak had “put his girlfriend backwards onto the floor to control her aggressive behaviour. “He accepts he did spit in her direction but doesn’t know whether it landed on her.”

The court heard that after the incident Doak ‘lost his temper’, picked up a road sign and threw it at a parked car, causing £400 of damage. This led to a separate charge of criminal damage which he admitted.

Doak was given a 12-month Community Order with a six month supervision requirement and ordered to do 80 hours of unpaid work.

He also has to pay £85 costs, a £60 surcharge and £200 towards the car damage.
