RECORD numbers are expected at the North West's biggest agricultural show today.

More than 30,000 people are believed to flock to the annual Westmorland County Show at the show ground at Crooklands, near Kendal.

The roads are already at a gridlock with the traffic crawling on and off the M6 junction 36 on the A590, and the car parks are quickly filling up.

With more than 3,500 exhibitor entries, star appearances from TV chef Phil Vickery and the all the usual traditional competitions, the day is set to be a success.

"The show itself is the same but it always looks different year on year with lots of new trade stands," added Ms Knipe.

There are record numbers of alpacas and poultry and the sheep entires were said to be 'fantastic'.

The show is also playing host to special guest Guy Smith, National Farmers' Union Vice President.
