CUMBRIA’S fantastic fungi feature in a new guide showcasing the best places to spot mushrooms and toadstools in the county.
Cumbria Wildlife Trust’s (CWT) guide, Great Places to See Fungi in Cumbria, is designed to help people find a nature reserve, grassland or woodland near them worthy of a visit this autumn.
MORE TOP STORIES:
“Some fungi look like traditional toadstools, some are large and found growing on trees but they come in all sorts of shapes, sizes and colours,” a CWT spokesperson said.
“Fungi can be found year-round, but late summer and autumn is a great time to look, when the countryside can teem with mushrooms.”
Any ancient woodland or unfertilised grassland, is worth a look.
Cumbrian sites include Great Wood at Borrowdale, Cliburn Moss near Penrith, Brown Robin Nature Reserve at Grange-over-Sands and Wreay Woods, Carlisle.
