THOUSANDS of Christmas gift boxes are on their way to disadvantaged children in Romania thanks to the kindness of south Cumbrian folk.
A van carrying 10,112 boxes is currently on the road to the Transylvania region of Romania, an annual festive trip organised by the Boxes of Hope charity.
The boxes were checked and packed last weekend at Preston Patrick Memorial Hall, Crooklands. They will be distributed to children in orphanages or who live with their families in dire poverty.
