RESIDENTS in the Kendal area will tomorrow (Dec 12) start to receive their new blue recycling bags in readiness for plastic and cardboard kerbside collections starting in the New Year.

From January 5 South Lakeland District Council (SLDC) will begin collecting plastic and cardboard from the kerbside of more than 14,000 households in the town and Burneside, Oxenholme and Natland. It is the first phase of an expansion of kerbside collections that will eventually take in the whole district.

The new blue recycling bags will be used for collecting plastic bottles, pots, tubs and trays as well as cans. One of the existing blue boxes will be used for cardboard and paper, with the other continuing to be used for glass.

Details of exactly when each area of Kendal is moving to the plastics and cardboard collections will be getting blue bags will be posted on the council’s website and social media pages.

Visit www.southlakeland.gov.uk/bins-and-recycling for more information about the scheme, as well as video guides about which container to use for which recycling materials and what happens to plastic after collection.

Wards included in the first phase of the plastics and cardboard collections are: Kendal Highgate; Kendal Kirkland; Kendal Mintsfeet; Kendal Romney; Kendal Strickland; Kendal Underley; Kendal Far Cross; Kendal Fell; Kendal Castle; Kendal Heron Hill; Oxenholme and Natland; Kendal Parks; Kendal Stone Cross; Burneside.
