ULVERSTON pharmaceuticals company GlaxoSmithKline is to generate its own green energy.
Plans for 92 solar panels at the North Lonsdale Road site have been approved by South Lakeland District Council.
Mounted on the ground, the photovoltaic panels would generate up to 23kW electricity to be consumed on site, according to plans.
Ulverston Town Council supported the application, and South Lakeland planners agreed the solar panels would have 'little visual impact'. They also said the production of green energy would bring economical and environmental benefits.
Meanwhile, major employer GSK is also hoping to build a new cold store warehouse at its Ulverston site.
According to plans before SLDC, the warehouse would store raw materials and chemicals on 1,400 pallets, at between 2 and 8 degrees C.
A covered corridor for forklift trucks would link an existing warehouse to the new 39.3m x 26.2m store.
