CONCERNS about trespassing at a Silverdale holiday camp and old folks' home have been aired.

Silverdale Parish Council chairman Cllr Terry Bond convened a special meeting to discuss ways of discouraging walkers from unintentionally trespassing in the grounds of Cove House residential home and Leeds Children's Holiday Camp.

Cllr Bond told the Gazette he had been approached about walkers trespassing onto private property several times a month as they came up from the shore.

The presence of children and elderly people at both sites made it undesirable for people simply to walk through, he explained.

Cllr Bond said walkers often tried to walk round to the cove towards Silverdale, but the coastal route was "rocky, muddy, shingly and slippery" and the walk could take longer and be more challenging than people thought, leading them to return from the shore to avoid the incoming tide.

Representatives from Cove House, Leeds Children's Holiday Camp, the National Trust and Silverdale Parish Council agreed to seek local publicity to warn people not to overestimate how far they could walk. Existing signage is also to be appraised.
