THE latest development in a raft of improvements at Ulverston Leisure Centre has officially opened to the public.
The centre, on Priory Road, is managed by North Country Leisure (NCL) and has undergone a facelift this autumn with an extended new fitness gym the latest to open.
The new gym includes an increase in equipment from 16 to 36 pieces, offering more choice for existing members and the capacity to accommodate additional users.
The official opening was carried out by the chairman of South Lakeland District Council Cllr Evelyn Westward, who said: "This gives everyone the chance to have a go at getting fit in really great surroundings with great facilities.”
Since taking over management of the centre in April this year, NCL has ploughed £200,000 into a number of projects at both Ulverston and Kendal. South Lakeland District Council has also provided £700,000 towards the work.
Future projects at Ulverston include a plan to build an outdoor third generation multi-sports pitch next Spring.
