SOUTH Lakeland charity Chestnut Events has signed a partnership agreement with Westmorland General Hospital to transform a neglected courtyard garden within the hospital grounds into a thriving space that can be enjoyed by patients, staff, visitors and volunteers.

The garden, which occupies an internal quadrangle, had become overgrown and underused and is gradually being cleared and transformed.

Chestnut Events is promoting healthy living and eating by offering the opportunity for hospital staff to take on a raised bed within the garden to grow fruit and vegetables.

The charity was set up to assist children and young people in developing skills and attributes to build confidence in themselves and understanding of the world around them.

Chestnut Events has work experience opportunities on Fridays for young people aged 16-24 at their community garden sites and are also seeking adults. Both involve a range of practical outdoor tasks working alongside Chestnut Events staff. For further information contact 01539 678072 or email info@chestnutevents.org.uk
