HOLIDAYMAKERS catching the train to Manchester Airport are being advised to allow extra time for their journey from this weekend.
Travellers will have to board a coach for the last leg of their journey from this Saturday (January 17) because of engineering works.
Rail campaigner Malcolm Conway, secretary of Lakes Line Action Group, told the Gazette that passengers should "allow an extra hour" for their trip to the airport.
The line between Manchester Piccadilly and Manchester Airport is to be closed from this Saturday, January 17 until Sunday, February 8 so that construction workers can complete the new, fourth platform at the airport station.
Train company TransPennine Express says express coaches will run "frequently and directly" between the two stations, with "plenty of room for luggage" and extra staff on hand to help passengers.
