The new facility will provide a unique training opportunity for thousands of apprentices.

The two-storey unit provides craft engineering apprentices with a realistic training environment in a replica submarine section. The mock-up will be fitted out over the coming weeks and will feature live systems which mimic those on submarines.

The BAE staff involved in the project were BAE operations process capability manager (nuclear) Alan Cockburn and a range of apprentices, higher apprenticeship trainees and graduates. Alan Dunn, operations director at BAE Systems in Barrow, congratulated Mr Cockburn, and the work of his team and Furness College saying, "TFS will become a key resource for us as a business and the college."

Furness College principal Anne Attwood said TFS is "absolutely fantastic" and "really unique". "This has been built into the fabric of the college, the same way that the shipyard is built into the fabric of Barrow. Thank you very, very much, this is going to be wonderful for thousands of people."
