AROUND 300 bin bags of litter were collected from off-road sections of the Sea to Sea (C2C) path in 2014, according to charity Sustrans.
Andy Small, Sustrans maintenance manager in Cumbria, says he finds an eclectic mix of abandoned items on the path, which is part of the charity’s National Cycle Network and attracts some 15,000 cyclists every year.
Amongst his most unusual finds were a three foot teddy bear, two artificial legs (both left) and an engraved wedding ring.
The C2C cycle and walking route runs 140 miles from Whitehaven to Sunderland and Sustrans manages the traffic free sections between Whitehaven to Rowrah and Workington to Keswick.
