A FIRST year mechanical apprentice from South Lakeland has scooped four awards in a national competition.

Liam Moffat, who works for Burneside-based James Cropper paper mill, was awarded the honours for his achievements as a trainee fitter, including the First Year Off-the-job Apprentice of the Year award and accolades for fitting, behavioural safety and conventional machining.

He received his awards from world champion superbike racer Carl Fogarty at the annual T2000 Engineering Awards in Burnley.

His apprentice colleague at Croppers, Brett Ashley, was declared In Company NVQ3 in Fabrication and Welding award winner.
