ANTI-social behaviour has dropped in Kendal but offences of assault are on the rise, according to a report presented to the town council.

The quarterly report from Inspector Paul Latham said there were 1,388 anti-social behaviour offences reported in 2014/2015, compared with 1,563 this time in 2013.

But offences relating to ‘crime priorities’, which include burglary in a dwelling, assault and drugs trafficking, have increased from 941 to 1,097.

The report said: “The increase is mainly down to assaults and how we now record these, and this rise is across the county and country.”

It also says that 38 drivers received tickets in December as a result of officers targeting the junction of Sandes Avenue, Maude Street and Stricklandgate for vehicles not conforming to the turn left sign.

A number of other motorists received verbal warnings and the report states that most of those stopped were locals.
