A GROUP of Gurkhas stopped over in Kirkby Stephen while on a charity coast to coast ride marking 200 years of service to Queen and country.
The nine mountain bikers from Queens Gurkha Engineer Regiment bedded in at the the town's hostel as they passed through on their route.
Denise Robinson, of Kirkby Stephen Hostel, said: "They made Gurkha chicken curry and were utter gentle men."
She added many of them wives and children who live on barracks.
The team of off road bikers are raising funds for the Gurkha Welfare Trust.
