PLANNERS gave the thumbs up to the construction of a 46.3-metre high wind turbine on agricultural land at Deerslet, near Burton-in-Kendal, despite objections from local parish councils.
Burton-in-Kendal, Yealand Redmayne, Yealand Conyers, Borwick and Priest Hutton Parish Council's all objected to the plans, as did Lancaster City Council and Arnside and Silverdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the Friends of the Lake District.
But South Lakeland District Council's Planning Committee gave the application the green light after the meeting was told that the impact on nearby residential properties would be negligible and that the electricity would help power the farm's milking units. It would also result in the farm saving £12,000 a year in power costs.
