BURTON-in-Kendal's girl guides raised £370 for the Rosemere Cancer Foundation's Valentine's Appeal coffers by holding a cake off competition and coffee morning.

The guides took home-made cakes and biscuits to Burton Memorial Hall for judging by expert local cake maker Val Still. They also designed and put up posters to advertise the event.

They also drew maps for a treasure hunt and under the watchful eye of guide leader, event organiser and former Rosemere patient, Helen Dawson, they helped serve and tidy up after the coffee morning’s 150 guests.

“I wanted to repay Rosemere for the wonderful treatment the centre gave me last year," said Helen. "The girls were equally enthusiastic about fundraising for the charity by holding a cake off competition and coffee morning.”

The Rosemere Cancer Foundation fundraises to bring world class cancer treatment and services to cancer patients in South Cumbria and Lancashire via their local hospitals. It works to buy vital equipment and provide research and training that the NHS is unable to fund.
